The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) for Reach Out & Read Illinois is a student-run board that aims to promote early childhood development for low-income children through fundraising, volunteering, and hosting events throughout the Chicagoland area. We value the assets each one of our members bring to the board, and continuously assess the best ways each one of us can make our mark, whether through fundraisers at a local church, a book drive at a school library, or a bake sale after-school. The possibilities are limitless, as we are all innovators looking to spread awareness, shine light on our mission, and use our power to make a positive change.
Our Efforts
READ-A-THON
The entire Teen Board pledged to get off our screens, pick up a book, and log a lot of reading hours throughout June 14-30, 2020 to support the work of Reach Out & Read Illinois. Our collective goal was to raise $1,500, which we surpassed!
TRIVIA NIGHT
In the winter of 2022 the Teen Board hosted a virtual Trivia Night, raising nearly $500 for ROR and having fun working in teams with friends and family members.
READ TOGETHER
Many of our members created videos of themselves reading their favorite children’s book in order to comfort children and families during COVID-19 as a part of the #ReadTogetherIllinois effort by Reach Out & Read.
Selina Mejia, a developmental therapist for Early Intervention in Illinois, reads Potty!
Mariana Glusman, MD, Board Member and President of ROR-IL, reads her book I Love You Like Sunshine!
