In honor of Pi Day, we wanted to highlight a book that beautifully blends early math and community engagement. The book Counting on Community by @innosantonagara shows us the power of early math skills and how they can help us build stronger, more connected communities. Mae Among the Stars by Roda Ahmed follows the story of a young Mae Jemison. The book shows how her family's love helped her have the perseverance required to make her dreams a reality. And in 1992, Mae Jemison became the first Black woman to go to space.

Today's author highlight is Langston Hughes. Langston Hughes was a prolific writer, authoring his first poem at 19 and publishing his first book at 25. He went on to write countless other books, plays, and poems and even wrote for the Chicago Defender, a wildly popular African-American newspaper. #reachoutandread #blackhistory #LangstonHughes

The book, "Rap A Tap Tap" by Leo and Diane Dillon is a rhythmic and colorful book that celebrates the 20th century tap dancer, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Bojangles wowed audiences across the country and performed in a variety of acts, including dancing alongside Shirley Temple. While he was known mostly for dancing, he was also an accomplished singer, actor, and philanthropist -- ultimately giving away most of his money. Today he is remembered as one of the best tap dancers of all time and in 1989 congress declared his birthday as National Tap Dance Day.
